The eReSS study provides support to the JISC VRE Programme by helping to identify suitable solutions for the interoperability of Virtual Research Environment tools, applications, and resources. This covers both ongoing activities within the VRE Programme and parallel activities in the wider Grid, eResearch and related environments of interest. The eRess wiki provides factual information on all standards and specifications of relevance to VRE development and interoperability.

Brief Summary
This glossary is derived from work done by the EU DIFFUSE project, which collected information on standards relevant to the Information Society. The DIFFUSE project was funded under the European Commission's Information Society Technologies programme, and started on 1 February 2000 and ran for 36 months. DIFFUSE publications were originally maintained by TIEKE (the Finnish IT Development Centre), IC Focus and The SGML Centre before the Digital Curation Centre repurposed them.
